Riddick

This past week I saw Riddick. I can't say I have too much to say on it. I liked the other two in the trilogy, but this one was really cheesy for me. I mean to the point it was kind of ridiculous. I like the action and what not though. Of course Vin Diesel delivered, awesome eyes and all. But overall I was kind of disappointed. Chronicles was so awesome so I really really wanted this one to deliver. I still haven't learned not to have expectations to particular movies. I can say he is really resourceful but that has always been Riddick and his pet is pretty awesome. I say make sure you watch this as a rental. so I say rating: 2/5

Elysium

Elysium! What can I say about this movie. It doesn't disappoint. There are crazy weapons that are wonderfully powerful, tons of action that keeps you on your toes and a great story.
It takes place here on Earth in LA. Of course Elysium is in space. Its a ship to hold life once the world fell apart. And it really really fell apart. Jobs are hard to find, people are selfish and the world seems to speak spanish! Which i think is pretty stinking awesome. In Elysium many people speak french.
Anyways back to the movie. It is a mission to save himself and he ends up with an even bigger mission. The movie was beautifully put together. The cinematics are fantastic! Not to mention Matt Damon can speak Spanish pretty dang good. I wish I could get into detail but then what would be the reason for you to go and see it :) Rating:5/5. The acting was good, story was great, the effects even better! GO SEE IT!

Mortal Instruments

First off I have to say this movie was better than expected. Being that it's the first movie in the series I didn't expect much but I can say I was pretty impressed. The fight scenes were pretty epic. I enjoyed the whip work. I haven't read the book yet, I did this purposely so I couldn't be disappointed in the movie. Which tends to happen a lot these days. This is definitely a teen movie but hey I might as well be one. I enjoy a lot of teen fiction there seems to be a lot more imagination in them and you can escape to a different world.
Anyways back to the movie. A girl who doesn't really know what she is and finds out in the most uncomfortable way. Turns out her whole life was a lie but for her own protection. She sees things the normal "mundane" (human) eye cannot see. She is Nephilim, not your average Nephilim as described in a biblical context (giants) but a half human half angle called a shadow hunter. They are here to hunt down demons but they have a truce with all other beings, ex: vampires, werewolves etc. They are looking for an artifact which is the source of their power (both good and evil). There is love, drama, friendship, and battles. I can say there are some cheesy parts in the beginning but other then that the acting was pretty good. I think it is worth the watch. Maybe not big screen for most people but I am glad I watched it in the theater. My rating 4/5. I would watch it again. Oh happy day :)

The Poker House

I was glancing through Netflix. I wanted to find a movie that was worth the watch. I stumbled upon "The Poker House". Obviously Jennifer Lawrence was a big reason as to why I chose the movie. I am a big fan of hers. I think she is a great actress and she seems to have a fantastic sense of humor. Back to this movie. It was released in 2008 and was directed by Lori Petty (she was in the movie "In the Army Now") It was actually based on her story.
It is based on a true story about 3 sisters who live in Council Bluffs, IA in the 70's. Their mother was a prostitute who had addiction problems. Her world revolved around her and her pimp. There is all kinds of abuse in this movie. It is heartbreaking the things all the girls have to endure. Whether its hunger, neglect, sexual abuse, or the fact that her mother had plans to pimp out her daughters when she decided they were old enough. This movie pulled on my heart and made me think a lot. I found myself disgusted and angry while watching. I mean her mother chose a man that pimps her out and beats her not to mention a few other things as well over her own daughter. I just can't see how a mother cannot have unconditional love for her children. There is a bathroom scene where Agnes is trying to wash the unseen filth from her body.. she iscrying and her mother walks in. Agnes reaches for her and all she can say is she wants Agnes to go to the store. this is after a man volated her daughter. I wanted to break down and beat the woman senseless. I am not a violent person but people and situations like that are just things a person CANNOT stay quiet about.
I can say the girls worked hard to get what they needed. They are very resourceful and know how to survive. Agnes impresses me with how she protects and provides for her sisters even when she hasn't had the influence she should have had. She ends up leaving shortly after and moves to NYC to become an artist. Overall I liked the movie. It made me think of all of those people who have to struggle to live. To get out of the environment they have been shoved into, who have to fight and go through struggles many of us are privileged not to have to face. God Bless the people who become something greater than what they have been dealt. I ranted and raved to my brother for about an hour. rating: 4/5. I felt some acting could have improved. Happy Day :)

The Wolverine

So I am completely late on writing about this movie and I am sorry. I have had a lot going on. So here it goes. The movie itself was pretty awesome. I am a fan of Wolverine anyways. I liked the fact that this movie showed that he isn't completely invincible. I personally don't mind strong accents and this one had a lot of english/asian accents making it difficult to make out what they say sometimes. But I actually liked that part about it. Call me strange. Also the story line itself I felt was pretty thought out. It's repaying old debts and betrayal. I can't really complain at all except the main girl had kind of a spoiled attitude and that annoyed me. But that annoys me with anyone. The love story kind of threw me off a little but the ninjas made up for it. So I say I give it a 4/5. It is definitely one I will invest in . Happy Day

Eona, the last dragon eye by Alison Goodman

Where to start in this book. There is so much in it. Eon used to be a girl pretending to be a boy for survival of her and her those closest to her. In Eona she finally gets to be the woman she was born to be to find there are secrets about her and her ancestors that have an impact on her those in her country. She is stuck in love and in loyalty. As she loses herself inside a deep longing she soon reminds herself of who she is. The decisions she has to make will effect not only her but her world. She finds who she can trust and who is there out of necessity. It is a terrific read that kept my imagination wild. I recommend it to anyone who would enjoy a flare of asia in their fantasy. I give the book 4/5 . Oh Happy Day :)

Perks of being a wallflower

There is so much to say about this movie. I've watched out before and it is by far in my to 10 movies that I love. This movie takes me on an emotional rollercoaster. I feel for Charlie and want to fight for him to come out on top. To get three high school experience that everyone deserves. Unfortunately with todays society school isn't what out used to be. This movie shows bullying of many different sorts. Discrimination, acceptance, self discovery, honesty, and best of all true friendship. I can't stop singing the praises of this movie. the people chosen to portray each character were definitely well thought out. If you haven't seen this movie, what are you waiting for. Dive into this little treasure. This is the breakfast club if this decade, according to me :) rate: 5/5
Happy Day!
